The Creation Process
Inspired by natural shapes created by the ocean, I draw inspiration from the beauty of my island home, Maui. Traditional Hawaiian tattoos and ancient petroglyphs influence my subconscious, however many of my designs flow straight from my mind and onto the stone.
Different shapes, sizes and grits of steel caving burrs are coated in electroplated diamonds. These are used in a had held tool creating each design one line at time, turning stone to dust and pebbles into pieces of wearable art.
Special grinders for cutting and polishing stone are used with diamond wheels.Water is used to keep stones cool and minimize dust. The hand held carving tool that is used in the carving process can be seen in the bottom of the picture above.
